Buried Treasure

What would be some of the difficulties in protecting your fortune by keeping it buried on an island unkown to most people? How would you get it there? How would you keep it a secret? How would you go back to get it? How often would you need to check on it to make sure that nobody else took it?

I think that back then it would be somewhat easy to bury your treasure on some deserted island because they didn't have all of this technology to search for stuff with metal detectors and stuff.

Well, I have no idea how I would go about doing any of those things but I do know that it would be hard if you were an infamous pirate. People would know all about you and kind of what you stole and earned. So they would know that you might have treasure somewhere and they might hunt you down or someone close to you to get a map from you. Plus you would have to run away all the time and have it hanging over your head for the rest of your life and you couldn't spend the money. Post something on how sometimes you "hate" your parents cause I'm mad now.
