Making Predictions (parallel reading prompt)

As good readers, it is important for you to make predictions as you read. You use the information that the authur gives you, make inferences, and build a prediction. It is equally important for you to check on the accuracy of your predictions, and think about why they were accurate or inaccurate. Sometimes the author includes misleading information so that he can surprise you later on. Sometimes you will mis-infer. Sometimes, though, your prediction will be spot on, a wonderful reward for the time and thought you have put into making the prediction.

What was one prediction you made while reading Treasure Island? On what did you base this prediction? Knowing what you know now, was it a good prediction?

What is your current PR book? Make a prediction about something that will happen in the book, and tell me the information and inferences on which you are basing this prediction. Finally, tell me how many stars you would give this prediction, and why.

Well... I finished my book in my reading but a prediction a made early on was that the Adderhead would not have the Bluejay make a new white book at Ombra or the castle of the night. This prediction happened to be right.

The book that i started was the Rangers Apprentice and it is about a young boy who gets chosen to be an apprentice to a Ranger named, Halt. So far, they have gone on a boar hunt and right now they are preparing for a battle. It is a great book so far. I predict that the battle will start soon and Halt has a big chance of not living to fight another battle.
I'll leave you with this....

Well, my book WAS The Last Olympian, by Rick Riordan. Oh, yeah, don't read this post if you haven't read the book yet. I finished it and it was possibly the best book I ever read. A prediction that I made was that Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, would make a suprise entrance at the Empire State Building, where Percy Jackson and his friends were trying to hold off Kronos, Lord of Time. I based this inference on the fact that Percy had been witness to an arguement between Hades and Nico. Nico then set Percy free from the Underworld. Nico had tricked Percy and led him to a trap. I was pretty sure Nico would want to make things right to Percy by getting Hades to help the Olypians fend off Kronos and the Father of all monsters, Typhoon, who nearly defeated the Olypians earlier in time. I am not going to go into the details but basicly Poseidon and Hades bacame unselfish( due to Nico and Percy) and joined the other gods to defeat Kronos and Typhoon. I would give my prediction 4 stars because I used info already given to try to predict something. I made a lot of other predictions as well but they were all wrong. I can't really remember any predictions I made in Treasure Island.

One prediction I made while reading Treasure Island was that Long John was actually the bad 1-legged man and he hired a crew that was actually bad. As we know, this was correct. I think it was a good prediction. My PR book was Stanford Wong Flunks Big Time. I finished it, and didn't really have any predictions. I sort of just let the book tell me what happened.

I also finished my PR book. It was Harry Potter and the half-Blood Prince. I predicted that Dumbldore WOULD die because he had drunk the poison drink which I found out was right.

Because Treasure Island is such a great book I had already read it before sixth grade. But while I was reading the book for the first time I made the prediction that Ben Gunn would play a much larger role in the book than it may appear. This prediction turned out to be correct because if Ben had not found the treasure things may have turned out much differently. My current PR book is Victory of Eagles that I have already finished reading. But a prediction that I made early on is that the two Celestial dragons, Temeraire and Lien, would have a final climatic battle ending with a fatality. Alas this prediction was not entirely right and I think this prediction deserves a mere four stars due to the fact that neither of the dragons died in their duel.

The book I was reading this week was The Last Olympian. I predicted that Typhon, the storm giant, would make it to New York and wreak havok on the city before the Percy could fight it off because there was this whole prophecy where Percy was supposed to defeat Kronos so it seemed like he would defeat Typhon too. What actually happened was that Poseidon pulled Typhon underwater and put him in Tartus. I say I give my self a 3 out of 10 because my prediction and what acctually happened both ended in Typhon being defeated.

The name of my PR book is They Came Before Columbus. The inference I am making is that Spain will continue to hide that there is proof africans came to the New World before Columbus. They will hide it because they made a deal with a Portuguese prince and stopped obeying it also they hid the evidence of African pottery. I would give my prediction 3 stars because the prediction isn't original but it sums up the book.

I cannot remember any predictions I made in Treasure Island. The book I am reading right this very millisecond is called Snakehead. In the story a good thing happens to the main character and then something goes terribly wrong. This happens over and over. That makes it hard to make a prediction right now. Alex Rider just escaped being shot by a helicopter while escaping from a criminal run hospital on the edge of the Australian Outback. He tricked the people shooting at him by acting like he was dead and then he paddled safely to shore in a makeshift kayak. I think he will start looking for help and someone will find him. He will think he is saved, but it turns out that his rescuer is a bad guy.

One prediction that I had in Treasure Island was that I thought that all of the honest men would try to leave on the coracle. I came pretty close because Jim used it, but it wasn't entirely on spot.
The book I'm reading until I find a better on is the Hardy Boys book 2. My prediction is that the drug smugglers will spook them again because when the Hardy Boys checked an attic looking for the screaming noise they got locked in. I would give my prediction a 4 and a half star because it tells the reason why I predict this thing to happen.

I cannot remember any predictions I made in Treasure Island. I think a good prediction is when your prediction is detailed and you base it off of facts and patterns. This inference is based on the pattern of the book. It goes good then bad then good then bad and so on. I would give this inference 3 and a half stars BECUASE I think it is good, but this book is sometimes unpredictable that's why
I gave it 3 and a half stars.

The only prediction that i remember from Treasure Island is that I thought that many people were the one legged seafaring man. All of these predictions were wrong. I think this because many books are like this and it is just a guess. I would give this prediction 4 stars because it is a good prediction, but it is a wild guess.

My prediction in Treasure Island was that Long John Silver would turn into more than just a sea cook. I made this prediction becuase earlier in the book, Jim's "gut" reaction had led him truly. This prediction turned out to be painfully true, since Long John Silver ended up leading the mutiny against the honest men.

My current PR book is called Phoenix Rising. It is about a family that takes in a 15-year-old and his mom who were left homeless by a nuclear waste spill. Based on the fragile condition in which the 15-year-old (Ezra) is, referring to his sensitivity to radiation (since his earlier exposure had been near fatal), I would say that there will probably be another spill and Ezra will die, because the author went to such great pains to describe Ezra's condition and his fear of being exposed again.

As I have not finished my book yet, I have not proven my prediction correct or incorrect. I would still only give it three stars out of five, taking into account the fact that my prediction wasn't very well based on details in the book.

To add to my earlier post I made the prediction that there would be one final battle between the two celestial dragons because Lien and Temeraire are arch enemies. Also Lein has sided with Napolean and the French while Temeraire has sided with the British. And lastly Lien blames Temeraire for the death of her companion, a prince of China.
