What did you learn?

Over break I learned how to use a posthole digger (and prybar) to dig holes in really rocky soil. I learned how to use carriage bolts to secure 2x8 boards to 4x4 posts. I also got to practice a couple of things I learned to do while completing previous projects. I practiced mixing and pouring concrete, and hammering lots of nails.
What did you learn over break?

Over break I learned that if you ride your bide through where I live you can use a lot of shortcuts that you can't use with a car therefore you can get to your destination faster then with a car. But another reason for that is the speed limit is only 35mph

What I learned over break was how to build a floor to a tree house. Because I’ve always wondered the floor worked between the tree branches. But Monday my dad had some 2by4s from building the back porch last month. Then me and my dad got plans to build a tree fort. It was so cool how it worked. It took a day to build the fort floor. We might have got more done if we didn’t take so many breaks

Truthfully I didn't learn anything. All I did was hanging out with my friends like Piage and Alex, and go on Facebook and YouTube. So I really didn't do anything that would teach me anything. Buts I had a lot of fun!

Anyway I learned that one of there Navy bases had on tunnals The grass over rules the tunals and so the Naval base adopted goats to mow their lawn. Only the locals know about this though. I had a great time learneing all of this facts.

over brake i learned that you cant always trust everyone because sometime it may come down to where you can only trust some people.Over brake i went to new york city to see the broadway play called whicked it was amazing it was like something you have never seen befor i was amazed we
had row seats so the vew was awesome. there was over 2 thosand people there. But befor that i went to the hershy story on 5th avanue and we bought some chocolate the store was 3 storys tall and had some much chocolate that when you walked into the store you wanted to eat all of it. then we went to plant of hallywood and there we got to see famouse peoples handprints on the wall like cher, the jones brothers, justin bebier, will smith, ben jinkins and many more. then we went to hard rock cafe to eat there me and my mom got our pictures take and we went to eat raskelflats was playing on stage i have mac and chesse but it was spice so i did not like it that much. but this trip wass very fun and i would love to do it again sometime. Another thing i learned is that homless people make you want to cry i have never felt as bad as i did when i saw this guy sitting on the side of the church crying i was like mom give hiom a dollar but she said no. But you could tell he was wairing all the clothing that he has and he had not eatin in a while i felt so bad for him

During the break I spent my time in the country of Ecaudor, a very corrupt little county with short people in South America. I stayed with on of my dads freinds who is the defence attache for the embassy, and he took affensive driving classes to learn how to get away from bad situations like refuges and other things like cutting off taxis at high rates of speed. I learned how observe for green lights when they are not quite visable for the driver. I learned how to say things in spanish to tell poor people on the streets that I didn't want to buy there candy, or that I was not interested in buying coca leaves. Because no thanks only made them go away for about twenty seconds before they come back again like you're a new costumer, and then you have to say go away, or if they are preticularly obnoxious you curse at them (they dont mind). But many times you just have to tell them to get out of the way, like when you are getting out of the airport or about to run over street performers. In the galapagos I learned many of the varies names of the animals like blue footed boobie. From the cruiz there were different groups and I was in the Frigett group. It is a kind of bird. Though I didn't really learn any gardening or construction but I built up my tolerance for the many plane trips...6!on this trip.

I did learn some new thing over break, but I don’t believe they were the most important things to learn and know. One thing I learned was about my grandparents’ town they live in, in Pennsylvania and the history behind it. I also learned more about gardening while I was helping my grandma out in her garden. I learned a little bit about banking when my grandpa also took me to his bank. Another thing I learned was how to reduce the cost of clothing by the percentage that it was one sale for while I was shopping. I learned a lot of things when I was with my grandparents and I think that they were very interesting things to know.

Over break I started to to learn to program video games in Python from a book. My expectations are to become an independent developer by the end of summer and ultimately to program apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad. I also went back to my old hobby of metal detecting but I had to learn how to do it again because I forgot how to do it over the winter.

Over break I learned two things. First I learned how to jump on rollerskates. The first time I tried I landed in a pile on the floor. The secret is not to jump too high. I got a little better each time I tried. Of course, I didn't want to leave the rink when it was time to go.

Seccond I learned how to take soil samples. It's kinda fun to do especally when it isn't raining. You have to dig up some top soil in a few places around the feild and put the samples in a bucket. Then you have to mix it and put it in a container and mail it to be tested. It is tested to find out what the field needs. Fertlizers or a certin crop that needs to be planted. I had a great time over break.

Over spring break I went to Key Biscayne.Key Biscayne is about five minutes away from Miami and South Beach. The first day it was raining so me, my Mom,Dad,sister Toria, and brother Jimmy ( my other sister is in Bhutan.) took a road trip to Key West. This was a lot of fun because the whole way in the car we were surrounded by water. When we got there my family and I just walked around, watched the sunset, went to the beach then drove back. The second day was my favorite day because I went swimming with dolphins!!! This was a lot of fun. It was really cool because 10 other people went with me but only three were from the USA. I got to ride across the pool on the dolphins back, kiss the dolphin, shake hands with the dolphins , and watch him do all the cool tricks. The rest of the trip I went to the beach and got a really weird sunburn, or went to downtown Miami and shopping. But I also saw the one of the most expensive cars in the world. It's called the Bugutti and it cost 1.7 million dollers. I got picture standing next to it. This car was really ugly but there's only 200 in the whole world so I thought it was cool. I left on Saturday and got home on Sunday. This break was a lot of fun and I can't wait for summer. There's only 33 days of school left!

That is all that I learned but I also read the seventh Harry Potter. While I was reading Harry Potter I learned that everyone has a good side (except Voldemort). I also put my hammok up really high and almost fliped over!

I learned a variety of things over break. I visited a Community Garden in a suburban part of Oregon, where people can rent plots out to grow fresh vegetables. Many people were using high-technology devices, such as placing red cones filled with water over tomato plants (red makes tomatoes grow faster) and makeshift greenhouses over peppers, squash, and tomatoes, to ensure that their vegetables will be able to be harvested in early May-June-July, instead of later in the season. Another thing I learned is that in Oregon, people plant crops as early as in January!

I also learned a lot about flying. I went to a museum where they had a flight simulator, and I was able to try my hand at flying an aircraft. At first I was not successful, but eventually, I became much better at it. This was after many unsuccessful tries. I crashed many times before I was able to truly take off and land properly. The simulator I was using was the same program as many pilots use today. I learned about the hard work that pilots do when flying a plane.

I also found out that it is normal to have pet Pythons and monkeys roaming around the house. I found out that when the Americans left the Panamanians were not happy. The US provided a good economy, protection, and political security. Our tour guide had a good job transporting goods to the Americans and he lost his job. The Americans helped Panama gain its freedom from Colombia. Also, all the old American buildings that the government got for free they tried to sell to there own people at a HUGE profit. If the U.S stayed Noriega would not have had come to rule.
The last day I went to an Embera indian villiage. There I learned about different cultures. The Indians there worship the moon. They always walk bare feet and don't whine. I found out that when the government declared their property a National Park it told them that they could not farm or hunt any more, thus they were more dependant on the tourism. I also found out that I am as tall as a full grown man there (:
I also saw the French Cemetary, as the French first started buidling the canal- but they failed as they didn't want to use locks and the didn't understand that yellow fever and malaria were caused by insects. Alot of men died. I learned that alot of the people in Panama came there to build the canals, as the natives just weren't big enough. I also learned that they still dredge the canal every day. Also they are explanding the canal which they hope to have opened in 2014- 100 years later- which will make it easier for more traffic as well as conserve water which now just flows out to the ocean.
Over this vacation I learned alot about many things.

Over break I went to Panama. I learned alot of things there from history to science to culture. Our hotel was on the Chagres River which originally was dammed up for the water supply for the Panama Canal. Chagres means many crocodiles and caymans. The Panama canal was really close to our hotel. On a hikewe saw many unique kinds of birds and we saw eggs that we thought were snake eggs. We eventually found out that they were turtle eggs. We then went to an Arial tram and we had a good view of the rain forest canoy and the canal. We also saw lost of terminite nests. There was also nests that looked pointed hanging from trees which were ant nests. Thost nest help the tress as the Ants eat harmful molds. We then went to a place called "Monkey Island" When they flooded the canal the water created this island in Lake Gatun. We saw White Faced monkeys. At the hotel there was an exhibit area where I got a better idea about what we could see at the canal. There were crocs, caymens, snakes and many other things. The next day we went fishing at a lake that got flooded intentionaly when they exploded the dam, Lake Gatun. It was HUGE. We saw many large freighter ships heading to the canal. I learned that when they go through the narrower areas of the canal they have a tug boat right behind them so they wouldn't get stuck and create a traffic jam. When we fishing I thought that I heard a car go by but it was a massive group of howler monkeys. My brother caught a 5.5lbs. pickle bass. I caught a few fish including an Oscar. I had never seen either of these fish before. They both tasted good.
The next day I learned alot when we went to the Miraflores locks. I found out that with the locks that they used pipes that went under ground to transport the water from lock to lock. It goes by gravity. It was quite funny when a ship was going by the crew was taking pictures of us and eachother at the canal(: I also learned that when ships go thorugh the locks, the captain has to give up control of the ship to the Lock Pilot. He directs he ship through the lock. There are only a few feet of leeway on each side, so its really close. There are also trains in the front and back of the ship on both sides that help keep the ship going the proper way.
We also went to the old city. Captain Morgan(Pirate) burned down the city because he wanted the golden altar that the Spanish had. The Spanish painted it white took it apart and hid it in the sewers. Then we went to the "new old city". The next day I went to a city called Portabelo. It was a huge bay discovered by Christopher Columbus. There was a Fort made to fight off Pirates. The fort was untouched in fact the stands for the cannons rotted away and the cannons are just still there. It was not kept as clean as American parks.
There the kids who are able to go to a school love it and are excited for it every day. Not only have to take a LONG bus ride, they have to walk a really long way through the rain forest and THEN take a canoe just to get home. They all wear uniforms too.

Well, over break I learned that it's hard to buy a car because the car salesmen take forever to get the paperwork together. Magically,if you yell at them on the phone, then they get it done faster! (My mom yelled at the salesman, not me!) I also learned that sometimes, baby goats can be really hyper. I went shopping with my mom, and we were away a long time. When I came back, they were bleating their heads off for their supper! So, the next day, I took them out of their kiddy pool in my house. They went beserk! They were jumping all over the couch and my house. So, I guess that I should let them play more often than I did!

It was when I went to the gate way to enter that I found out that our tickets did not have the Statue tour on it so I wasn't able to go up to the crown and I also now know that you need to call and pre-ask at least 2days earlier is you want to go to the top of the Statue of Liberty

Over break , I learned basicly nothing except...How to stay prepared in the sun. spring break was as fun as ever considering I had friends over and we watched a lot of cool movies, Scary clips, and we also went to Wendy's. Now that I think about it, I did learn how to confront someone about your problems. An example of my learning would be my chicken being cold, hard, and hurting my teeth. I could have left the problem alone and ate the chicken, but as a result of talking about the problem I was offered more chicken. I got my money back and ate at home which also was a healthier choice! So thats what I learned over spring break!

Over break I went to Washington DC. It was really fun but i also lerned alot from a museum called the Smithsonian. This museum is part of about 7 buildings all about different things. The one that I loved the most was the national american history mueseum. There I learned about our countries succes over the years, and some famous artifacts that were either part of a famous war or somthing about a president. The coolest thing there for me was the hat that Abe Lincoln was wearing when he was assasinated. There was alot of other really cool things also, but that was one of the coolest. Another really cool thing at the Smithsonian was the air and Space musium. This is where I saw the actual Apollo 11 spacecraft. I read about it on a plack that was next to it, it was an amazing sight to see.I learned a ton of stuff at the Smithsonian, and I plan to somday bring my kids to see these amazing artacrafts. And thats what I learned and saw this spring vacation.

There is a couple things i learned over break, One thing is when you go fishing always make sure you have good line on your pole.Or else you will get dragged in, i went fishing in edmeston and i caught this fish and it dragged me in along with my pole. Although i was in the water and it was cold my dad through me the fish net and i caught the fish and saved my pole. Come to find out i caught a 9 in. Rainbow Trout. Another thing is, when you go to Inner skate 88 and you don't really know how to skate don't let your friends go full speed and then let go of you, you most likely hit a wall or fall down and hurt yourself. Here are just to things i learned over break.

I did not do much over break. Because my Mother and Father have their businesses to attend to, we did not travel, only with the exception of grocery shopping and a generally brief trip to Utica.

I get restless when there is nothing to do. Mr. Hobbie, the Girls' Modified Track Coach, had suggested that we run over break; so, to put it bluntly, I did. There were days when I finished running and the outside weather was beautiful, so I sat on the porch and began to read Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. I have not made it far (around pages 26-28)--the print is tiny and the formatting is somewhat like my own to a larger extent: Wordy and elaborate.

I have read Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, once before. While reading it for the first time, I realized that there were many words that I did not understand, as well as numerous phrases. This time, I did not make it too far into the chapters when I put the book down and began to carry a dictionary with me. Before I even picked up a book like Pride and Prejudice, I vaguely knew that it would be helpful for both me and my vocabulary if I looked up the words that were foreign to me in the dictionary. However, I was more than slightly impatient, and did not. Over break, I learned, that it is extremely helpful to look up those words. I now have a better understanding of what "regimentals"--as was written in the book--are, what an "ensign" is, and what "felicity" means.

This April break I learned that I can go to the movies and have fun. In the past I haven't liked the movie theater because I thought it was loud and I thought that my vision would make it hard to see. However it was not hard to see the movie and I solved the problem of loud movies by finding a good pair of earplugs. In the process of learning how to enjoy a good movie I also learned that I could use earplugs for other situations like loud concerts and other loud events. So this break I learned two things: that I could use earplugs and that if I use them I could go to the movies and have a good movie theater experience.

While I was on break I went on a cruise to Bermuda, UK with my dad and my brother. While on the ship I learned that boats can be one thousand feet long and have more people on them than all the people in Cooperstown. I also learned how to play ocean basketball(basketball on the court on the boat) you wouldn't think it would be hard but the wind way really strong. After three long days at sea we got to Bermuda. I learned that there are tons off jellyfish in the ocean and the ones that die float up the beaches of Bermuda. I also learned how much the U.S. demands oil and gas I learned this by the taxi driver in Bermuda, my dad asked him how much gas was in Bermuda, the taxi driver said about seven dollars per gallon and then he talked about how much the U.S. complained that the price of gas here is about three dollars per gallon and there's is seven dollars.

Over break I learned that I REALLY needed contants for basketball. I had an AAU tournament the weekend break started. I got hit in head where by where my glasses where. Also, my glasses got knocked off my face during a "fast break" and I had to put them back on face which gave up a basket. My mother did not want me to contacts but she had not choice, she didn't want me to get hurt. Also i told her that I was NOT going to play basketball and get hurt!

I also learned that I am really picky person. Well I always knew that but I thought it went away, but it did not. I had to get a cotillon dress. WE HAD TO GOT TO FOUR MALLS to find one. We went to a mall in Binghamton, Utica and TWO in Albany. So that showes that I have not "outgrown" being picky.

I learned that it takes alot of time and money to have land subdivided for residential home building. You see, my grandpa used to be a farmer and he owned 200 or 300 acres.
After he retired from his "profession" and moved to a cottage on Lake Ontario, he had to get alot of approval by the town of Adams, NY (the town he lives in). He also had to get approval from the DEC and the DOH (by the way, the DOH is very very slow and frusterating, it took them three years to get all of it approved. They just did it in sections before they got it all of the aproving finished.)During this process, the planning board had to make blue prints of the roads that would be there for the residants to get to their newly built houses. He got to name the roads, one after each of his daughters: Shirly Drive, Jill Crest Lane,(my mom)Nancy Lane, and Carol Drive. He also named a few of them other names too.
Now he is still selling lots from $30,000 to $50,000 and they come in diferent sizes. Anyways, thats what we talked about over break. I learned alot from him and got to see his work getting done over the years. He now only has 100 or so lots left, I think he started out at 200 lots or something like that.

Over break, my family and I traveled to Florida. For four of the days we went there, we went to Captiva Island. While we were at Captiva, I went fishing with my dad off a boat in the Gulf of Mexico. The guide of the boat taught me three things about fishing with live bait; hook the bait fish by the nose, let the bait fish drift with current, and cast far!

When we were visiting my cousins in California, my dad asked one of my cousins, who is very smart, "Why is The Bronx called THE Bronx?" My cousin told us it was because there used to be a family whose last name was Bronx who lived in what is now The Bronx. On Saturday my great aunt was getting married and she is 80 years old which is very old to get married especially if the person your getting married to someone who is older then you and is 84, and that is also what I learned over break was not to get married when your 80 year old! Let me tell you the rest of my vacation. On Sunday and Monday I just stuck around my house and annoying my brother. On Tuesday of our vacation I went over to my friends house which was really fun. On Wednesday through Saturday my family went to my Grandma and my Grandpa's house by lake Ontario where me and my sister went swimming, which was very cold!
