If I could travel in time to spend a week in any other year in American history, I would spend a week in 1933. During the Great Depression many were called upon to find strength beyond what they thought they possessed because of truly desperate circumstances. Many who had worked hard and done the right things saw everything for which they had worked snatched away through no fault of their own. I believe that by spending time with people who clung to hope and resolve during such trying times I could learn some valuable lessons about the depth of human courage and our capacity to overcome misfortune. Spending this time would make me feel better about the human race; it would also help me appreciate my circumstances rather than taking them for granted.
If you could travel through American history to spend a week in another time, what year would you choose? What would you hope to learn from the time you spent?

if i could spen a week in any time/year, i would go to september 11, 2001. The reason i would go to that time is because i am instrested in 9/11 because I have two relitives that died in 9/11, and i would like to learn alittle bit more about it. If i had another choice,it would be the year 1942, because my great great grandfather was a german nazi and i am intrested in World War II. I would hope to learn what it was like to storm the beaches of Normandy.

I would go back in time to 1960s when Economy was good and people were more high class. There was better music and classic cars. I think it would be cool to be my dad's friend when he was younger.

If I could travel back to0 any time in American history it would be during the Civil Rights Movement, at some point between the years of 1955-1968. I think I could learn a few things by visiting this time period. I think that visiting this time would help me appreciate all of the freedoms that I have in life. I think that it would help me see the bigger picture and realize how lucky I am. I would like to also learn, for lack of a better word, respect. Africans Americans were treated horribly in this country, but during the Civil Rights Movement, they usually never attacked anybody or made violent attacks on people. I think that this was a kind of respect. Many people tried and succeeded in physically hurting the African Americans fighting for their rights, but they never set out to hurt people. They were strong and kept going through all of the hard times that they faced. I think that by visiting this time in history I could learn many things and become a better person in the process.

If I was going to travel back in history I would have travel to The WW II. I would go there because my grandfather that diesd fought in that war. I never got to met my grandfather so I would want to learn about him and get to talk to him. He did not die in the war he died of cancer.

If I could travel back in time to a historical time it would probably during the 1960s during the segregation times. I would learn about how hard it was for African Americans to go to school or restaurants and even bathrooms. I would have joined a movement and done something to help against these laws in my week there. It is hard to imagine today that back then some people were just so cruel to someone just like them. I would hope to make a change in my week there and hopefully show them that it is only a matter of time till it gets better.

If I could travel through American history to spend a week in another time period it would be sometime in 1945. I would chose sometime in 1945 because that's the year when world World War 2 ended. I would like to go back to this time because I would have a feeling where I wouldn't worry about the war and relatives dying I also would have a sense of, accomplishment because World War 1&2 were very big wars.

If I was able to go back in time to an event in history, I would choose to be on a ship heading to Elis Island in New York City around the year 1902. Many of these people were rather poor and were going to America to start a new begining. Being poor many of these families took jobs as factory men, or construction workers. Many children worked in factories or selling newspapers to support their family as well. Some of these families were so poor that one member of the family would go overseas and work untill he/she had enough money to bring the rest of the family over. This journey must have taken tremendous courage, for these people left what little things that they had behind in search of a better future for their kids and grandkids. Thier hardwork and determination has turned America into the flourishing socciety of great diversityit is today.

If I could travel through American history to spend a week in another time period, I would choose the year 1776 because that is the year that America was finally its own country. I also like the way that the people dressed back then. I would hope to learn how to live like those people and do exactly what they did from the time I spent there.

The time period that I would like to go to would be the 1869 during the women's rights movements. Why I would like to go to the time period would be because, women had no rights. I would be a part of standing up for their rights and I could of possibly had made a difference. What I would have liked to see was, what it was like being in their prespective. It was a rough time for women but, I would have just like to have seen what people were doing, what marches were like and just see what they had to go through. I think it would have been very interesting to see what it was like. Today women have the right to vote, own property and many other things. Today women wouldn't have these right if it wasn't for the women that fought and fought in the past.

If I were to travel to a specific past time I would go to June 6, 1944 the day we stormed the beach of normandy. I would travel to that day to find out the hardship that all the men had to face when they stormed the beach. D-Day was one of the most challenging thing that americans have had to face and the bravery of the men who fought was incredible. I think going to this day would make me a better person for knowing that I didn't have to go through what they had to go through.

I could also learn what it feels like to have to make a decision that will impact a lot of people not just myself.

If I could travel through American history and spend one week in this place I think it would have to be the year of 1848. I would go to this time because this was when the first women's rights movement convention was held in Seneca Falls. I would hope to learn how lucky all women are, to be able to have the same rights as men. Women fought long and hard for many years to get the rights they have today. Some people still do not treat women and men as equals, but it is still better than not having the right to vote, have jobs and own things.I would really love to see this convention because I bet it was very interesting to see how they all communicated their ideas, and thought about ways to make changes.

If I could travel through American history to spend a week in another time, it would be the year of 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a devastating for many people. The attack was a surprise, but the U.S and Japan have been wanting to go to war for years. I suppose spending time with the people that had been injured and shocked from the attack would make me realize no matter what happens, never give up, rather than give up and leave it be. Also this road to war made me realize about how aggressive the world is at times.

If I could choose a week to spend in American history, I would spend it when they were designing the Empire State Building in the year of 1930. I would hope to learn how the architects designed it and how they built it. I would also want to get ahold of the blueprints so I could see how everything was modeled inside of the building. Another reason I would want to go to this time period is that I could learn how they used new materials and new design techniques.

If I could spend a week in any time it would be 1945, which is the year WWII ended. I would hope to learn about how Hitler acually died. I would sneek into where Hitler supposibly died and I would watch what acually happened. I would do this because I don't believe Hitler killed himself, I believe that Hitler escaped underground or somewhere else. I think this because I don't think he planned the whole homicide and didn't have an escape plan.
If I could go back to some time in American history, I would probably go back to the Constitutional Convention, or something along those lines. The time I would choose to go back to the last week of World War 2 in 1949. This was the time in history that my dad says that created the greatest generation. Most men during this time were asked to go off to war to fight for their country. When they got there they saw things and did things that changed them forever. I think the things they saw and had to do made them appreciate what they have at home. Fighting on a battle field looking out for each other makes you stronger as a person. When the war was over and they came home they were just happy to be alive and so they worked hard and did not complain about things. They built homes and factories that helped make this country great.

If I could travel through American history and spend a week in another time, I would spend a week with one of the early explorers who helped discover America. I would choose 1541 when Jacques Cartier made his last journey to north America. I would especially want to be with him and his crew as they interact with the natives. The reason I would like to do this is because I feel that when early American history is taught, we often downplay how cruel some influential people were. I think we might also make dirty parts of U.S history seem better. I would get to see exactly how these explorers we think of as heroes, actually acted. What I would hope to learn from my trip is how the explorations actually went and what details were lost over time. Even more importantly, I would learn how events are changed or not changed at all, when they are taught to kids.

If I Could go to any point in time and spend a week in that time period I would go to the time of 1919. That year was the year my great grandfather came to America as an immigrant. He came to America not speaking a word of English and on his own. He came from Leon, Spain because of a decision made by his parents. He was sent here because there was a war, his brother who was drafted, was shot and killed in one of the many battles. Through the course of his life he came here and worked day-after-day in Panaderia, a bakery and when he grew older he purchased that bakery so him and his family could then then have work, and a home. Having a very strong accent, he was hard to understand but he was bright and had seen many things throughout his life. I would have wanted to ask him about what it was like coming to a land he knew nothing about, what it was like trying to find work without speaking a word of the language, and if he missed his family. I would have learned what it was like to survive under the feelings of fright, anger and confusion. I would have learned what it was like to make the most out of what you have and hope that someday you have more of what what was you had in the beginning.

If i were to go back in time, to any time period in American history, I think I would go to the Revolutionary War between the years of 1775-1783. Going to this time period strikes interest to me, because I want to know what it would be like fighting for your freedom. Being someone in these battles, not knowing what will come next, completely inexperienced, fighting a war we are destined to loose must have been terribly frighning. By going back to this time I believe I could learn a little bit about courage, and the guts it must have taken these people. Also, I believe I could learn how to appreciate everything I have today. At my age back then I don't really think I'd be going to school with a bunch of other guys and girls. I think that by going back in time, and seeing how our country truly became OUR country would teach me valuable lessons, and lets face it... it'd be super cool to meet George Washington, before he was on the 1 dollar bill!

If I could travel in time to spend a week in American history, I would spend a week in 1892. That is the year when Ellis Island opened and since that year up to 1954, immigrants had been passing through Ellis Island to go to America. I would choose to go back to that time in our history because they came to America, with nothing but a few dollar looking for a better life and yet they were treated unfairly. The immigrants were the ones who took the low paying jobs such as factory workers in unfair and very dangerous conditions. Many of the immigrants had come to America because they had to, such as the Irish, they pretty much didn't have a choice because of the huge famine in their country at the time. I think that it is truly amazing that they held on and just kept pushing forward through poverty, poor living conditions and being so far away from what they knew. What I would hope to learn from the immigrants is just to never give up, it will get better eventually just don't stop when it gets rough.

This question is a very difficult question to answer. There are many events in time in which I would like to visit. However, if I were to choose one event in time to visit, I would most likely choose the Cuban Missile Crisis. To be more specific, I would like to be at the meeting John F. Kennedy had with his military advisers behind closed doors. A U-2 spy plane came back with photographs of Russian Missiles on Cuban soil. Many of Kennedy's top military advisors were "War Hawks". General Macnamara of the Air Force was one of these advisors, who felt that Russia was going to use Cuba as a platform to launch Nuclear weapons against the US. Therefore, he and others tried to get Kennedy to launch an early surprise, massive nuclear strike against Russia. They didn't think that the Russians would be able to fire back their own nuclear missiles at the US. Unfortunately, they didn't know at the time, that Russia's missiles were designed to fire automatically in response to an American launch of missiles. Although Kennedy was a young and inexperienced President,he refused to be rushed in his decision making. Kennedy told his angry Military advisors that he was the President and that just because the majority of them believed a nuclear attack against Russia was the right thing to do, it didn't mean he would do it. In the end, he Navally blockaded Cuba and the Russians backed down. I admired Kennedy because he kept a cooler head and he avoided world war III and possible complete nuclear destruction of the world. What I learned from this was to talk out our problums as opposed to making rash decisions. We are all alive today because Kennedy stayed calm and used his head.

If I could go back in time I would go back to World War II. I would want to go to World War II because I want to know what the Germans were thinking about their actions. I know that in our time many regret what they have done, but in their time I want to know what each soldier was thinking. Were they guilty, sad, or scared to stand up and say no? Or were they proud of their beliefs and abuse to other religions? That is what I would like to learn about the Germans if I could stay in that time for one week.

Also i would like to know how different hunting is and how the things we traded the Indians is so different then what we would today trade. If I could travel through history to spend a week in another year, I would chose 1776. I would choose this time period because it was during the American Revolution. This was a time when America was fighting for our independence from Great Britain. I think this was an important time in history because Americans’ were fighting for what they believed and what was close to their heart. It took many brave Americans to stand up for their cause, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence represented the values of what our country is built upon. I think the Americans who fought for our freedom showed great courage and taught future generations that you should fight for what you believe. I would hope that from this experience I would learn to value my freedom and rights I have been given in this country, and also if you set your mind to something, anything is possible.

If I could travel in time to spend a week anytime in American History I would go to anytime from 1840-1850.I woud spend a week there because of the expansion west and also all the immigrant arriving from Ireland and other countries. I would spend a week exerpiencing the westerward expansion because I think that the Oregon Trail and the big move west is a really monumental part of American History. I think the determination and the hardships they faced are inspiring and could be a lesson to us now that we have a pretty easy life compared to them. I would want to experience the life of an immigrant for a week because I think that like the people moving west they faced a lot of hardships. They could teach me a lot about diversity and acceptence because I believe that because they may have spoken differently, and dressed differently the immigrants might have been treated badly by the "Americans", even though the immigrants and the "Americans"could have been very alike - both of them were just trying to make a better like for their family. I think it would be a good lesson for me that even though we may seem very different - we are alike in many ways.

If I could go back to another year in American history It would be 1760. This was considered the eve of the industial revolution. I would hope to change people's idea about throwing waste into the ocean and thinking they were getting rid of it forever. The ocean is polluted because of this and so are the rivers and lakes because of peoples laziness to recycle or to just walk over to a garbage can and throw thier junk away. The factories are polluting the air very much and if the people from the industrial revolution had not thought of making factories to produce idems quickier this planet would be alot heathier.

If I could travel to any time in American history, I would go to 1812. I would go to 1812 because of the War of 1812. This was an important war in American history fought between the United States and Great Britain. American resentment over British harassment of their shipping, and American's wanting to conquer territory in Canada were the reasons of this war. This war lasted over 2 years. Although American's didn't get Canada, we made British stop destroying our ships.
