Appearances

Watch the india.arie video on the link below. What is the theme of the video? How does the artist get her point across? Does she prove her point to you, or do you remain skeptical about her message?

I think the video is about different people with different views on how their hair affects how people respond to them and how they think their hair affects them.

The point of the video was to show that eventhough somebody might have crazy hair it does not mean that they are crazy. I think that the artist proves her point. I know that if I see someone with wierd hair I think of them as wierd. This is wrong because you cannot judge a book by its cover.

I think the way you wear your hair shouldn't change who you are, but it might. You should do the same things no matter what the circumstances are, like having a different hair-do. But it might because you might think you look so great in a certain hair-do that you start acting like you're the king or queen of the world. Or it might influence you to do something bad. Bottom line is, I believe that your appearance shouldn't change who you are, but for some people it might.

I believe that the theme of this video is that you should not judge a person by their hair style or any other aspect of their physical appearance. The artist gets her point across by bringing several people in, one of which particularly caught my attention. An african-american gentleman who was talking about how he changed his hairstyle over and over, and finally he got some girls to like his appearance, but he couldn't get a job. That really made me think about how I might judge someone by their appearance, and made me think about how people judge other people by looking at them because it is quicker than getting to know them. I think that the artist proved her point to me very well.

This authors message was a bit convincing, but I'm still uncertain about the message being given. She says that the way I wear my hair makes me a better person, and I don't completely agree.

As you would say, I remain skeptical about her message. AS I would say is that i dont get it at all! I am not totally sure if this is what the point is but, your looks dont tell who you are you tell who you are. Now that I think about it it is sort of like "Freak the Mighty." With Kevin and he looks nerdy but if you get to know him he is cooler.

The point that the singer is trying to convey is whether or not your appearance changes who you are. She tries convey this message by the wearing a different outfit and with different hairstyle in every part of the video. Her point is that even though she looks different, she is still the same person. I think that people express their personality with their appearance, but that doesn't define who really are.

The theme of this video is that your appearence doesn't judge who you are as a person. The words "I am not my hair" say that she is a different person than just what she looks like on the outside. For me, she proves her point clearly with the words and the title of this video.

Great comments so far, guys! Is there any one hairstyle that is prevalent here at St. Christopher's? Does wearing your hair in this way say anything about you? Do you choose how your hair looks, or do your parents? Do you ever have to compromise?

I think that the point of the video was that it doesn't matter what hair style you have, all that matters is your personlity(inside the body) is stronger than your hair style, or any style.

VT is going to beat Cinniati in the FedEx Orange Bowl!

I thought the video with the hair was dumb so i didnt finish it but your hair doesnt make you who you are just increases how ulgy or good-looking you are. but I also think crazy people do crazy things or ride with ozzy on a crazy train but certain physical features and personality traits reflect the person who has them so it makes perfect sense that a crazy person would have crazy hair. if a person has wierd hair but doesnt do anyhting about it that means they know they are wierd and dont care what other people infer. I think traits of a person reflects who they are.

I think what they are saying is that they had to do all these differnt hairstyles befor they had sucusse in life. But only one catagory like a job, social/love life, ect.

I believe that your appearance shouldn't change the way people think of you, but thats not always the case. Also, it carries over to the racial theme. Say if i were dark-skinned and had designs in my hair, and my light-skinned twin had the same styled hair. Would people think of us differently? That's why i say, DON'T JUDGE ME IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME, even if others do.

Several people have used language like "what your hair says about you." Would it make sense to talk, rather, about "what YOU say by means of your hair"?

With some parts of your appearance, like skin color, you don't have much choice. With hair style, you have much more. (Your options may be limited, more or less, by your parents, for now.) Do you think that your choices about how you appear say something about you? If yes, would it make sense to say "People's reactions to you should not be influenced by what you say about yourself"?

The great American philosopher Frank Zappa said, "Everyone in this room is wearing a uniform. Don't kid yourself." What do you think he meant? Do you think he was right?
