Plot charts can be a great way to develop the framework for a story. Once the framework is in place, it is relatively simple to add in appropriate supporting details that make an interesting story. Starting to write without having a framework in place, however, can lead to a long, boring story that never comes to a climax or a conclusion.
In order to practice making charts, pick a favorite book or movie. Write out a brief plot chart, being sure to include at least three examples of rising action.
Armageddon
Exposition: A meteor is headed toward Earth; if it isn't stopped, it will destroy our planet.
Rising Action:
1. A plan is developed to have a crew of oil drillers drill into the meteor and deposit a bomb.
2. The crew is separated on the meteor; down to one active drill, they begin work
3. After many complications, the second crew arrives on the scene to make the final push.
4. They drill to the necessary depth; however, the remote trigger for the bomb fails.
5. Harry Stamper stays behind to detonate the bomb.
Climax:
Harry is ready to press the trigger, and time is running out. The remaining crew blast off, but worry that something might have gone wrong. Can Harry detonate the bomb in time?!
Falling Action:
He does. The shuttle comes back safely to Earth, and the surviving members of the crew are happy.
Conclusion:
Harry's daughter and one of the crew members get married; at the wedding, there are large pictures of the crew who died on the mission. Happily ever after.

Percy Jackson is half god half human and he needs to go to Mt. Olympus to stop the war of the gods. The gods accuse Percy of stealing Zeus’ Master Bolt
Rising Action:
1. Percy goes to Camp Half Blood to learn to fight in battles.
2. Percy goes out on a quest to Mt. Olympus.
3. Percy makes a stop at a place where lawn ornaments are sold and kills Medusa.
4. Percy stops at what he thinks is a casino but is really a trap and escapes.
5. Percy goes to the Underworld and meets Hades. Hades finds the Master Bolt in Percy’s backpack.

Percy meets Hermes son, Luke. Luke battles Percy. The are fighting because Luke stole the Master Bolt to set Percy up and Luke wants to keep the bolt for all the power in the world.
Falling Action:
Percy wins the battle and takes the Master Bolt back to Zeus.
Conclusion:
Percy is relieved of being the “Lightning Thief.” He goes back to Camp Half Blood to train for more battles in his life.

Rising action: Mr. Incredible wanted to get stronger so he goes behind his families’ back and gets a super job. He lies to his family get captured and almost dies. Then his family comes to save him and their plane gets blown up. Mrs. Incredible goes to save him and she does but forgets about the kids who are fighting for their lives. They save the kids but at a cost.
Climax: The whole family gets captured and is hanging in a laser chamber. They escape but have to get back and save the city. The get back to the city and have to fight a giant robot to save the town.
Falling Action: they return home save their baby and go to a track meet for their son.
Conclusion: They all live happily ever after.

3. Army Seal member, Sane Wolf stays with the 4 kids while the mom tries to investigate the "ghost".

5. Sane Wolf investigates the house for the ''ghost", and gets attacked by ninjas.
6. The kids start to like Sane better.
Falling Action:
Sane Wolf's boss turns out not to be helping Sane and the family, but the Chinese neighbors who are evil.
Conclusion: The neighbors unveil themselves as the ninjas, and Sane and the kid's principal end up hurting Sane's boss and the neighbors and getting the "ghost". Then Shane has to say his good-byes to the family and find a new job.

3. Charlie dies and Joey tries to find a new home for Sukari.
4. She gives Sukari to Charlie’s daughter, but after awhile it doesn’t work out and Sukari is transferred to a zoo.

Climax:
Sukari gets transferred to an animal testing plant, without Joey knowing. She becomes very sick here and Joey goes and tries to rescue her.
Falling Action:
Joey ends up rescuing Sukari.
Conclusion:
Sukari ends up being transferred one more time to a zoo where she lives until she dies. Joey completes sign language and after a lot of work convinces the government to shut down the animal testing plant where Sukari was held. The End.

2 Hagrid accidentally lets slip some information on the object; Harry starts researching what it might be. 3 Harry finds out that the object is the Sorcerer's Stone and is hidden in the school protected by obstacles. 4 Harry finds out that Voldemort wants the stone so he can use it to become a human again. Harry plans to get it before Voldemort. 5 Harry and his friends get past the obstacles and are near the room where the stone is hidden when all his friends leave.
Climax: Harry enters the room and struggles with Voldemort for the stone. Will Harry take the stone?
Falling Action: Dumbeldore, a powerful wizard, comes in, saves Harry, takes the stone and destroys it.
Conclusion: Voldemort's plan to be a human is delayed. Harry is safe and happy.

Michael started to get college letters for football from 3 colleges the mothers real son ( now Michaels brother) wanted to interview the colleges because he wanted to see what he could get out of the colleges. 5. After he picked the college there was an investigator
that thought that Michaels new family was making him go there so after a long time Michael said that he picked the college because thats where is family went.

Exposition: A 13 year old girl (Zinnie) is trying to clear a trail used by pioneers way back when. After a lot of bad luck she starts to believe she needs to get this 20 mile long trail cleared by the end of summer. But after the trail starts to get a couple miles long, she worries she might not be able to get it cleared in time.
Rising Action:
1. She decides she should camp out on her trail so she is able to get up and clear, and not have to walk there and back, saving time.
2. She brings this plan up to her parents, and they all figure out a time for her to check in and come home for a few days.
3. They then go to the store and buy all the needed items for her trip.
4. Troubles come up, when she becomes homesick, and when she needs to go home to help her sick uncle.
5. When returning to the trail and the trail is almost clear, she comes upon a cabin, where she sees her dead Aunts coat inside!
Climax:
Zinnie runs home to ask her sick Uncle all about the cabin, and the things inside! By doing so she worries him, and he begins to have a heart attack... Even so he insists she take him up the trail on horseback with her admirer Jake to show him the cabin, so he can explain further. When up at the cabin, while being interrogated he passes out! Will he die, or will he come back... And WILL SHE FINISH THE TRAIL IN TIME?
Falling Action
Uncle Nate survives, and is able to be there for the opening of Zinnias trail, which she named The Redbird Trail, after her aunt once she finished.
Conclusion
The trail, once finished was lined with Zinnias and opened to the public. Uncle Nate lived to see it happen, and Zinnie finished before her deadline.

Falling Action: They get her away from Forks but James has followed. The Cullen's kill him though.
Conclusion: Bella gets hurt along the way but ends up being safe for the time being.

Exposition: An Alien Race invades the Earth to consumae all of its natural resources.

1.Inital attempts are made to contact the aliens but are met with hostile fire.
2.Several military attempts are made to combat the invasion but also fail because of a force field surronding all of the invading ships.
3.A discovery is made that all the alien ships and their force fields are connected together through a mother ship.
4.Plans are developed to send a virus to the mother ship to knock out their force field.
Climax: Two volunteers use a confiscated alien space ship travel to the mothership to deliver the virus. The virus is delivered and the two volunteers are discovered. Will they be able to return to Earth alive?
Falling Action: The virus is deliverd and military air forces attack the ships directly and conquer the aliens.
Conclusion: After all of the alien ships are conquered world wide everyone's attention is focused on finding the two volunteers. A radar operator discovers a signal in the desert and it turns out to be the two volunteers. They are returned home safely and everyone lives happily ever after.

Climax:
The Mother Paula spokes-model comes to the sight of the future sight of the pancake house and speaks to the town, but during the middle of her speech Roy and his classmates start a protest against the building of the pancake house so they can save the owls. Soon the Mother Paula spokes-model joins the protest.
Falling Action:
1. The protesters win.
Conclusion:
The pancake house is moved to some where else and the owls are safe at last.

Falling Action:His roommate finds out what he is doing and turns him in.
Conclusion:The kids and him preform at a rockband competition. Even though they lose, the parents and principal are happy to see the tallent of the kids.

Exposition:
-In a little cottage in the woods, there are three bears. One day, they decide to go on a walk.
Rising Action:
-A little girl named Goldilocks walks by the house. She sees that no one is home and goes on in.
-Goldilocks sees 3 bowls of porridge on the table. She takes a spoonful of each of the porridges.
-Goldilocks then sees three chairs. She sits in all of them.
-After that, Goldilocks goes upstairs and lies down on all three beds. She falls asleep.
Climax:
-The 3 bears come home to find Goldilocks in there house. Goldilocks wakes up and is so scared, that she runs right out the door.
Conclusion: Golilocks never came back to the bears` house.

My favorite book is the Lord of The Rings.
First bilbo leaves to rindell and leaves his magic ring to frodo his nephew. then frodo leaves for rivendell after him finding out the ring is evil. Black riders are coming after him wanting to bring the ring to thier master so he can regain his power and take over middle earth. Frodo leaves with other companians of dawrfs,elves , and men they head to Mordor. on the way they lose one compainian and keep going. then they split up because they have no other choice. Frodo and Sam go to Mordor while the others go to a great battle against the evil Saron. Who is the one trying to take over middle earth. Frodo and Sam just bearly make it to Mount Doom. They destroy Mordor and win.
If you would like to read this book or movie it is really great.
There is much more to it and I think the author was brilliant.

Exposition: A boy from New York City goes to aprivate school. (Yancy Academy)
Rising Actions
1. Percy is expelled from Yancy Academy for failing all of his classes
2.He goes on a camping trip to montauk point with his mother and is attacked by a monster with the head of a bull.
3. He dicovers that he is a half blood son of the god Posiden and winds up ina great quest to retrive Zeus`s master lightning bolt.
4.Percy finds the bolt and has to battle to get the bolt back from the king of the underworld.
Falling Action:Percy gets to Olympus and returns the blt to Zeus and meets his father for the first time.
Conclusion:Percy saves OLympus from a war between brothers and returns to his home.

The Incredibles
Exposition: Two powerful super heros get married and have kids who have super powers so they are a super family!
Rising Action: Mr Incredible misses his super hero days so he gets a job back agian without his family knowing. He went on a mission and almost died. His Family figures out and comes to save him because they love him so dearly. While is Wife goes looking for him his kids go wondering around and then start fighting bads guys. They all get captured and then get locked up, but with one of the kids super powers they mange to get out.
Climax; they escape and get back to the city and find a robet got sent to the city where they were at and theyre whole family destory it.
Conclusion:
they return home and then come to theyre baby and live a happy ever after!

Exposition:
Max was misbehaving so his parents sent him to bed without supper, and a jungle grew in Max’s room.
Rising Action:
1. Max arrived to the place where the wild things are.
2. The wild things rolled their eyes and showed their terrible claws.
3. Max tamed the wild things with a magic trick and they granted Max to be the king of all wild things.
Climax:
1. Max said “and now let the wild rumpus start!”
Falling Action:
1. They partied all night, but suddenly Max made the wild things go to bed without their supper.
2. Max got very lonely when the wild things were asleep.
3. Max escaped the wild things so they showed their terrible claws and rolled their eyes but Max still left.
Conclusion:
Max arrived home and in his room was his supper, still warm.

one of my favorite movies of all time is WORLD TRADE CENTER it is about 9-11 when the twin towers get hit by a hijacked plane (flight United 93)Nicolas Cage plays a port Athority Cop. When he gets called in to go down town with other cops and help evacuate the twin towers. He picks a team of some of the cops that went down town to go into the 30th floor to help people. He ands his team goes to get equipment(air tank,and flashlights). They relize they dont have enofe things so they go down to the Concorse lvl between the to towers and as they were about to go up in the tower the north towers collapes and every won but him and one more officer make it out alive, when to marine officers were looking in the robel and they keep saying "United states merines if u can hear me yell or tap". so finaly they hear them tapping and they work to get them out safly!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Exposition: Harry and Dumbledore need to find and destroy the Horcruxes that hold parts Voldemorts soul.
Rising Action:
1. Harry And Dumbledore go to Professor Slughorns house and try to get him to come back and teach at Hogwarts.
2. harry finds out that Malfoy could be a Death Eater for Voldemort and that he is trying to kill someone.
3. Harry finds a book is property of the half blood prince and he is the top of the class in potions.
4. Malfoy tries to kill Dumbledore with a necklace but only curses a girl.
5. Harry and Dumbledore find the whereabouts of a Horux.
6. Malfoy tries to poison Dumbledore but instead Ron drinks the mead and almost dies.
7. Harry almost kills Malfoy with a curse from the book that he found and then he has to get rid of it.
8. Harry and Dumbledore go to Voldemorts secret cave and get the horcrux which turns out to be a fake.
Climax: Dumbledore needs help because he drank a potion that made him weak. he asks for Harry to find Snape.
Falling Action: Snape turs out to be a Death Eater and he kills Dumbledore. He hen turns out to be the half blood prince in Harrys book.
Conclusion: Harry and his friend agree to go together to find the horcruxes and destroy them all.
One of my favorite movies of all time is Twilight saga! It is about a vampire named Edward (robbert patterson) , and a girl named Bella, who latter in the story fall in love and Bella finds out that edward is a vampire and Bella confronts him and then Edward invites Bella over to play baseball with his family and then other vampires come and try to track down bella and then Bella trys to confront him then the other vampire “james” bites her hand and then Edward has to suck the venum out of her hand. Over all it is a goodn movie and every thing turns out ok. But in the next movie ……………..

Dinner for Shmucks
That is about a guy who is in a buisness that when he got promoted he had to go to this dinner party the boss was throwing. But this was unlike any other dinner, he had to bring a shmuck. So while he was driving home(or to work i dont remember) he hit this guy with his car. After talking to him he finds out that this was going to be his shmuck. But as soon as he brings him home the shmuck starts ruing his life. (the guy thats playing the shmuck is the same person that plays micheal (the boss) in the show The Office so im going to call him micheal.) Micheal even acedentaly brought up the dudes old stalker!! well when he brings micheal to the dinner micheal doen't know what the real reson he is there for. So he starts doing All these stupid things which in the end the boss gives him the 1st place. But then the dude tells him what hes there for and then micheal tells all the other shmucks what they are there for then thay all start ruing the bosses place!! it was hilarios!!! hope you people get to see it!!

Eragon
Exposition:
A young boy named Eragon is hunting in the woods when he finds a smooth blue rock.
Rising Action:
1. It turns out that the rock is actually a dragon egg.
2. Stranges creatures come to Eragons town and kill his uncle.
3. In an attempt to save his town from another murdering Eragon attempts to leave but is stoped by Brom the story teller.
4. Brom teaches Eragon how to use a sword and majical powers so he can become a dragon rider.
5. While Eragon is travelling he is saved by a man called Murtagh.
6. Eragon saves an elf women from a jail cell.
7. The elf women is very ill from being poisoned in jail.
Climax:
Eragon learns of a large group of people that are the only ones that have a cure for the elf women. Eragon has to fight a bunch of menacing monsters on his way to the people.
Falling Action:
Eragon gets rescued and taken in by the people.
Conclusion:
The elf women is cured in time and Eragon is safe.

Iam going to tell you sbout a short story that i maide up but it is true.
there was a girl named aleie tsouvas. she wanted to go for a bike ride with her brother keaton, so they went on letherstocking street near the fire department. Alexie was not thinking clearly and wanted to ride on this path that was right on a 15 foot cliff and atthe botom of that cliff was cement. so she went on that path and slipped and feel down the cliff. she passed out and her brother emeditlly started to ride homew and get my mom. He got there and told my sister Alani first then he told my mom as he is telling my mom my sister is allready out the door running to the cliff. she got there and she said that i was standing up walking in circles. then my mom got there and took her to the hospital and she got checked out and got better. but she still didnt remember everything, tha happened. The amazing thing is she didnt get hurt once maybe some bruzes or scratches but no major probablms. That is my favorite story ever to tell.
